Would you like to share how you prayed this week?

This morning in church we asked some people who share about prayer - it blessed us.
Please take a moment to share a prayer you have prayed or an answer to prayer you have received this week.
1 Timothy 2v1-2
"I urge, then, first of all, that petitions, prayers, intercession and thanksgiving be made for all people, for kings and all those in authority, that we may live peaceful and quiet lives in all godliness and holiness."

Bringing our Gifts to God
We come to church this Sunday to give thanks for the desire and commitment of our forefathers to erect and maintain a beautiful building for us to worship in. In our three large stain glass windows are reminders of what is important for the church.

Picture
1. “Feed my sheep” (window on left)
The Ministry of Word and Pastoral Care -  John 21v15-17

Picture
2. “Put on the whole armor of God” (window on right).
Discipleship and Prayer - Ephesians 6v10-20

Picture

3. “Let your light so shine before men” (centre window)
Mission and Outreach - Matthew 5v13-16

Today we continue to hold these as important priorities for our church, and this is reflected in our Kirk Session working groups.

On our special Gift Day let us celebrate the vision of our forefathers and pray that God will enable us to carry it forward to the next generation.

Bringing our gift ………of Prayer

The church building will be open this afternoon for silent giving and prayer from 4-6pm.  You are invited to come and walk quietly around the church and use the sights that you see t o lead you to pray for the ministry of our church.  You can sit on the seats at the front and pray for the children of our church or sit around the communion table and pray for our elders, or stand at the pulpit and pray for those who preach each week, etc. If you meet someone you want to chat to,  just make your way to the stage  and pour yourself a cup of tea.

Come for ten minutes or half an hour.
Come on your own or come with a friend or as a family.
Come and pray for your church.

National Day of Prayer for Marriage

2/6/2013

Below we have put this helpful e-mail from the Christina Institute as we pray for marriage today.

"here's what to pray for:

  • That marriage will not be redefined, and that it will be promoted in society for the good of all.
  • That on Monday 3 June a majority of Peers will vote against the Bill to redefine marriage.
  • For the Coalition for Marriage group as it campaigns to defend the historic meaning of marriage.
  • For parliamentarians and others in public life to have the courage to stand up for their convictions.
  • For the news media, that they would report the issue widely, fairly, and accurately.
  • That the consequences of redefining marriage would be publicly known and properly discussed.
  • That people would not face discrimination, in the workplace or elsewhere, because of their sincere beliefs about marriage.
Open prayer is encouraged, but this written prayer may also be of help:

Heavenly Father,

We thank you for the gift of marriage which you established at the dawn of time, to be a blessing for all generations throughout the earth, down through the ages.

We pray that you would fill each and every marriage with your love and grace, and that every husband and wife would know the joy that comes from sharing and giving.

We thank you for establishing marriage to be a secure and stable environment for raising children.

We pray for all those who do not enjoy those blessings, remembering that you are a father to the orphan and a husband to the widow.

We pray, as you have commanded us, for those in positions of civil authority.

We ask that you would have mercy on our nation as the Government seeks to redefine marriage which is so precious in your sight.

We pray that our government will act with wisdom and righteousness, upholding marriage as the voluntary union of one man to one woman for life, for the good of all people.

We pray for our nation, as our government seeks to redefine marriage. We pray that these plans would fail.

And we pray for ourselves, that we would speak out in support of marriage with gentleness and kindness, but also with courage and confidence.

In the name of Christ Jesus our Lord we pray.

Amen.

Yours in Christ,

Colin Hart
